Our household has been overtaken by croup and it’s amazing how quickly it swept in and how quickly it took La Niña down; Sunday nothing… Monday morning she sounded like a seal. Originally I was going to wait until Tuesday to take her to see the doctor, but there was something about the way she was acting that made me call in sick and try and get her into see a doctor immediately.
We were told we’d have to wait until 4pm to see a doctor — but an hour later got a call to bring her in right away. Again, I’m grateful because by 11 you could hear the strider and tell she wasn’t doing well. The doctor didn’t mess around: she gave La Niña one strong dose of dexamethasone; and, now La Niña‘s able to breath, talk and play.
I’m flabbergasted by how quickly croup swept in and how quickly it took over La Niña‘s little body. Originally I though she’d aspirated water at the pool during one of her “LOOK-MOMMY!-flying-trips-off-the-slide-and-to-the-bottom-of-the-pool” adventures and took her in to make sure her lungs were clear. The croup diagnosis took me a bit by surprise and if I’d waited we probably would have been partaking in the “All-night-Children’s-Hospital adventure.
