In an obscure little alley way beside Pike Place Market, you’ll find stone walls decorated by masses of colourful bubblegum. Known as the Market Theater Gum Wall, the wall started when theatre goers began to stick their gum to the walls as they waited in line to enter the theatre.
Over the years the walls have taken on a life of their own, and when you head down the alley towards the largest concentration of goo you are hit by the sickly sweet smell of heat melted gum.
During our visit, one of my coworkers (Linda) continues the original tradition of sticking a coin to the wall using bubblegum. Her coin of choice: an Aussie dollar.
