This little restaurant is going to be one of the culinary stars of Kitsilano, which is pretty ambitious given the community is known for its cuisine and dining experiences. When I first entered the restaurant, it’d only been “unofficially” opened 14 days and had not yet hit the Foodie networks, Yelps and Urbanspoons of the world. Its official launch date was May 31.
For those of you who are fans of Top Chef Canada, Fable (Farm-Table) is the brainchild of Trevor Bird — one of the Top 2 participants of Season 2.
Along with Curtis Luk (also a contestant), the two have created a rather rockstar-ish foodie experience… on the day I visited, I couldn’t figure out why everyone was sitting at the bar instead of at tables. When I asked the waitress, she said it was because people came to watch Curtis and Trevor work and to sample from the tasting menu that is only offered at the bar.
I love farm to table restaurants because it means that the people working know exactly what’s in the food you are eating. Food for Fable comes from local producers around Vancouver and on the island. There are gluten and dairy-free options (even on the dessert menu, which never happens). The menu is reasonably priced. Entrees are in the $15-$20 range.
