Finding a parking spot was the most difficult part of going to Carlsbad State Beach. We drove around hoping for a bit of luck and an empty parking space. It took a while, but once parked, all was golden.
I didn’t realize how much I’d missed California’s beaches until we were on the sand wandering the shoreline looking at shells, seals, and swimmers.
This particular beach has a very sporty feel to it with surfers, runners, kayakers, and paddleboarders. This is also an incredibly popular triathlon destination. Between the Carlsbad Sprint Triathlon, the Beachfest Triathlon, and the Beach Duathlon thousands of athletes hit Carlsbad every summer to test their endurance.
Beyond this, there’s not a heck of a lot in the way of amenities… including washrooms. I couldn’t help but wonder if people were using the water for something other than swimming.
