dP took the doggies out for the run last night because I couldn’t get out of bed. The run itself was pretty uneventful until dP and the doggies got to the end and were fairly close to the parking lot.
The dogs disappeared and wouldn’t come back. Normally this doesn’t bother dP because the dogs tend to not listen at the end of the walk when it’s time to get into the Jeep; but, moments later he heard howling and turned around to find a large pack of coyotes playing with our dogs — and they were all calling out to all their brethren as if they were announcing a party complete with smörgåsbord and tasty treats.
Have you ever heard a pack of coyotes all howling? It’s pretty intimidating.
Stryder immediately came back because he’s too cool to play with the bad boys. He doesn’t like to smoke dope and do all of the bad stuff that the bad boys do. Stryder is never a concern; the concern is Kima who can be a vicious little bully who will attack anything that pisses her off. She’s twice the size of a coyote and could easily defend herself against one — but a pack…???
It was a very touch and go moment as dP waited to see if Kima would attack the coyotes or if they would attack her. Instead of going postal into berserkergang dog like I thought she would, Kima instantly became an honorary pack member and left with the coyotes to hunt deer [!!!].
Yes, my sweet – little – affectionate – soft – belly rub lovin’ Kima left dP and Stryder to hunt deer with the bad boys.
dP followed her through thickets, brambles, puddles and trees. Kima and the pack managed to ferret out two deer and chase after them in a hunger induced frenzy. At some point in all of this she realized that she was way out of her league when the deer easily outdistanced all of the canines and the coyotes turned to other culinary delights. Kima then turned and high tailed it back to dP.
We’ve found yet another park that we will avoid until the wildlife moves on.
