After the crypt we went to the National Gallery, which was very packed and very hot. We got lost in the 1700-1900 wing; a wing that has a high wow factor. You could spend days just wandering around and years and years studying the art here.
On the way back to Camden Town we got stuck on the tube for what seemed to be hours, with tons of other people. The Northern Line was experiencing delays due to an electrical problem and the train kept stopping and starting along the way. I swear we could have walked faster. The amazing thing was that no one on the train was fazed at all, this was a part of their everyday life. The worst part was stopping in the middle of a tunnel for what seemed to me like an eternity. Being mildly claustrophobic I had to force myself to not think about the walls closing in, running out of oxygen, and not being able to breathe.
It was hot and unbearable and getting off was like entering heaven. Of course we had to have a coffee after and we went to the Coffee Republic. It’s not bad coffee but still not as good as the smaller mom and pop shops in Camden Town. The decor was bright, interesting and inspirational with all the quotations on the wall that would bring pride to the heart of any coffee lover.
I’m told that Internet Cafes are as common in London as coffee shops — and today I tried one out. The cafe was packed and smelly so I quickly posted an entry before leaving. Using the cafe was easy; you walk in, get a computer/password, do your thing, pay and leave. It’s incredibly cheap: 1 pound per hour.
For dinner we went to a fish/chip shop and had super greasy cod and chips. After we walked back to the Hogshead and had a pint of good beer! The rest of the evening was spent watching British telly, a definite experience. First was a show about a woman who sleeps with only married men, next about Australian lesbians, and the last was a show on the top ten losers on TV!
