Pottawatomie Park is a vibrant little riverfront community park, complete with gazebo, wicked-looking waterslides, and a small handful of paddlewheel boats. Like mentioned in a previous post, there are paddlewheel tours<\/a> that runs a handful of times in the afternoon. The boat above is the Fox River Queen<\/em>, a modern addition to the park’s collection (built in 1987). Boats have run here since the 1930s. <\/p>\n

Before settlers, this was home to the Potawatomi people. This quote can be found on a nearby statue:<\/p>\n

Many moons ago my people were among the first voices to be heard in this land. We came to live in peace with nature. We hunted and fished. We married, bore children and died at our appointed time. The bones of my people mingle here with the earth. We loved this Valley.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Finally, a well-known landmark: the Pottawatomie Park Pavilion. This is a reproduction of the original, which was built in 1890. The original was replaced decades later when the original became too run down to use. <\/p>\n
