The Three Sisters are easily recognizable and can be seen from the TransCanada Highway as you pass Canmore (Alberta, Canada).<\/p>\n
Each of the peaks has a name: Big Sister (first climbed in 1887 by James J. McArthur), Middle Sister, and Little Sister (the most difficult to climb of the three). The later was not broached until 1925 by Lawrence Grassi (the Italian born guide that Grassi Lakes is named after).<\/p>\n
Contrary to what some think, the “Three Sisters” name does not come from Indigenous lore. The three peaks were originally named the “Three Nuns” in 1883 by Albert Rogers (nephew of Major Rogers<\/a> of Rogers Pass fame) and later changed to the “Three Sisters” by Dr. George Dawson<\/a> who immortalized the trio on paper (map of 1886).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
