On our last day in San Diego, a few hours before our flight, we went on a hunt for a restaurant that’d serve gluten-free brunch and give us close access to the Sea Lions in La Jolla. Brockton Villa was the eventual solution and from the balcony, we could easily watch birds, seals and sea lions frolic in the air, waves, and on the rocks. <\/p>\n

Not only is the view of the restaurant superb, but the history of the little house that the restaurant occupies is rather fun. La Jolla was a popular weekend destination for San Diegans in the late 1800s and early 1900s. As such, the land on which Brockton Villa sits was purchased in 1894 for $165 and converted into a vacation property.<\/p>\n

Over the years it’s been owned by a doctor, real estate agents, a woman who had a piano-playing turtle, and coffee merchants who eventually restored the house and turned it into a restaurant.<\/p>\n

For us, the view of La Jolla Cove was a winner and for La Ni\u00f1a<\/em> the Coast Toast is still talked about. <\/p>\n
