Since we’ve visited TripAdvisor’s Top 2 germiest tourist destinations<\/a> (the Blarney Stone<\/a> and Seattle’s Bubblegum Wall<\/a>), we thought it apropos to add a third to our repertoire: the Bubblegum Alley in San Luis Obispo. <\/p>\n

This particular bubblegum wall pre-dates the wall in Seattle by many decades. It’s thought to have started after World War II by San Luis Obispo High School students looking for a unique graduation activity. <\/p>\n

Over the decades the wall has grown rather largely and messily. It’s interesting to see what people can create when they are given a stick of bubblegum and a bit of imagination. <\/p>\n

It’s dirtier than the one in Seattle (no surprise given its age) but doesn’t smell as bad. It also makes me wonder what sort of information an Urban Archaeologist<\/a> could glean from this heaping mass of gooey gunk that came from people’s mouths.<\/p>\n
