Crowds&#8230; I *love* crowds (sarc)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It all started with the M&#038;M store because <em>La Ni\u00f1a<\/em> was guiding the way and what&#8217;s more attractive to a kid than a massive two-story-tall blue candy? <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.36.07.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-11-10-36-07\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.36.07.jpg 450w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.36.07-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Actually, for my kid, the answer to that is books&#8230; but by this point, we&#8217;d already done the obligatory two hours of wandering at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strandbooks.com\/\">The Strand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-10-14.53.28.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-10-14-53-28\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80918\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-10-14.53.28.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-10-14.53.28-595x446.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-10-14.53.28-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We moved on quickly because there was nothing Christmassy at all about the M&#038;M Store. I can&#8217;t even remember if they had a tree. It&#8217;s probably best that they didn&#8217;t because there&#8217;s no space to move with all the people jammed inside. <\/p>\n<p>If either of us could actually eat M&#038;Ms, we would have picked up the &#8220;I love NY&#8221; candies&#8230; because they&#8217;re unique to this store.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.44.08.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-11-10-44-08\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.44.08.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.44.08-595x446.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-10.44.08-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The next stop was Times Square. We braced ourselves for the brief wander by grabbing a coffee at the busiest Starbucks I&#8217;ve ever seen. Here <em>La Ni\u00f1a<\/em> had her first pumpkin spice latte. <\/p>\n<p>The momentous occasion was marked by us witnessing an altercation between a patron and the store manager, which ended with the patron throwing his coffee in the face of the manager while screaming &#8220;F**K YOU&#8221; as he stormed out.<\/p>\n<p>We think he was upset because Starbucks killed Frosty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.09.14.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-11-11-09-14\" width=\"600\" height=\"409\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80922\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.09.14.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.09.14-595x406.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.09.14-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rather than sit with hundreds of our best friends at the same table and watch employees dump out the dozens of coffees for people who didn&#8217;t bother to stay to get the drink they paid for, we went outside and sat in the square. <\/p>\n<p>Times Square is much calmer than the Starbucks on Times Square.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.16.17.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-11-11-16-17\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80921\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.16.17.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.16.17-595x446.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-11.16.17-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Times Square is the East Coast version of Hollywood Boulevard (or perhaps, Hollywood Boulevard is the West Coast version of Times Square). It&#8217;s filled with touts selling tours, people selling tchotchke, people taking photos, people behaving poorly, people, people, and more people. <\/p>\n<p>For our visit, we couldn&#8217;t find any food trucks or any of the iconic Times Square characters (like the Naked Cowboy) so we didn&#8217;t stay very long&#8230; there was a quick walkthrough to get to H&#038;M. And, then we hightailed it out of the area for lunch. <\/p>\n<p>The closest, decent lunch spot is the Untamed Sandwich, which does a really nice gluten-free pulled pork sandwich.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-13.04.37.jpg\" alt=\"sm-2016-12-11-13-04-37\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-13.04.37.jpg 600w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-13.04.37-595x446.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/sm-2016-12-11-13.04.37-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After lunch was attempt two at visiting Macy&#8217;s. The crowds were not as large on Day 2, probably because SantaCon was over.
