I&#8217;m leaving my ridiculously amazing travelling gig to take something local in Montr\u00e9al. There will be travel; but, a different kind of travel that is done at a sustainable pace (hopefully).<\/p>\n<p>It feels weird. This site will definitely evolve.<\/p>\n<p>Montr\u00e9al is not a bad place to land and there are a lot of great things happening here. For one, the Canadian <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Human_capital_flight\">brain drain<\/a> is reversing. For the first time in my 20-year-ish career, I&#8217;m seeing the flow of brainpower into a Canadian city&#8230; and it&#8217;s my city. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m actually one of these people. I&#8217;ll no longer be feeding into the success of Silicon Valley and cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. I will be feeding my energy and brainpower into Canada&#8230; into a Canadian company.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, I took what I hope will be my last flight for a while&#8230; to Washington D.C. of all places. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-31-18.10.51.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82984\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-31-18.10.51.jpg 650w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-31-18.10.51-595x447.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-31-18.10.51-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-30-15.15.50.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-82978\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-30-15.15.50.jpg 650w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-30-15.15.50-595x447.jpg 595w, https:\/\/wend.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/sm-2017-07-30-15.15.50-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the destination wasn&#8217;t D.C. because who in their right mind wants to go to D.C. anymore? <\/p>\n<p>It was Virginia&#8230; quintessential suburban America&#8230; a place where bedroom communities are surrounded by green, strip malls, prefabricated town centres, and a plethora of Whole Foods grocery stores. <\/p>\n<p>The whole thing was anti-climatic.<\/p>\n<p>The flight out, however, was a disaster. It seems only fitting that the last flight be on United&#8230; an airline that can&#8217;t make things work even when the Gods throw rainbows and unicorns into their lap. <\/p>\n<p>As a <em>constant-sorry-saying<\/em> Canadian I&#8217;m tired of hearing United say &#8220;sorry&#8221; at every step and turn.
