In 1965, as the city was building the Metro system, they used the 15-million tons of rock they excavated to create L&#8217;\u00eele Notre-Dame, the site of Expo &#8217;67. <\/p>\n<p>The second island is \u00cele Sainte-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne, a historic island that once belonged to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wend.ca\/?p=79543\">Le Moyne family<\/a> (1665-1818). \u00cele Sainte-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne was historically smaller but expanded for Expo &#8217;67.<\/p>\n<p>South of Marguerite Bourgeoys is Old Montr\u00e9al. The first stone chapel founded by Marguerite Bourgeoys in 1675 sat in this location as part of Montr\u00e9al&#8217;s original waterfront landscape.<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery
