Stryder’s Intrusive Bum

I know you’ve all missed Stryder and his geeky ways. In fact, tonight as we were leaving for the evening walk I said: “You’re so peculiar Stryder; so much so that if you were a human you’d almost be geeky cool.”

In the past year, Stryder seems to have developed some weird need to poop on bushes or very tall clumps of grass. dP thinks it’s because he likes to have something touching his bum during the experience. We could be in the middle of a desert and Stryder would hold everything until he found a nice little bush or tuft of grass to use.

Tonight was no exception as he squatted over a clump of very tall grass at the top of a hill. But, instead of the peaceful experience, he was expecting he was surprised as he squatted right over a quail nest.

These must have been young quail because they didn’t move until the very last “I’m going to poop now” moment. And, as they all sprung into action it looked like there was a flock of tiny little birds coming out of Stryder’s butt… the butt of one surprised looking dog. The chaos of birds squealing and flying in all directions turned Stryder into “Turbo Dog” and he ran in excited circles for the few moments that followed.

It took Stryder a while to calm down and once he did he found another little bush where he could do his business. This time he picked one that housed either a wasp or bee nest. I’m not sure which but he only stuck around long enough to squeeze one tiny little poop out and again turn into turbo dog — but this time he took off in a straight line away from the bush.

As Stryder was running away as fast as he could, I walked over to clean up his mess. Before I could figure out what set him off, I heard a chorus of buzzing and promptly got stung. Having never been stung before I was taken aback by how much it hurt — and kept hurting as the poison worked its way through my body (I could feel it moving down my hand, making its way through my arm). Both Stryder and Kima were long gone because evidently they are smarter than me.

Stryder resurfaced later down the path where he found a nice little patch of daisies to poop on. He looked like he was smiling as he finally found sweet-smelling peace. Nothing like this ever really phases him because as far as he’s concerned it was just a typical walk in the park.
