Location: Stanley Park
Dates: November 29, 2012 – January 1, 2013
Cost: A donation to the Firefighter Burn Fund. $4 recommended.
One of the more fun ways to see the Christmas lights of Vancouver is to partake in the Trolley Company Karaoke Christmas tour. The cost is $40, which includes being driven to the various light shows around the city, admission to these sights, a bit of Vancouver history, and a Karaoke machine playing endless Christmas carols (good ones too!).
The tour starts at the German Christmas Market at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and from here takes you to the Bright Nights of Stanley Park. Bright Nights are put on by the Vancouver Fire Department. Admittance is with a donation to the Firefighter Burn Fund. Once inside you are greeted by a sea of lights, the toys of Christmas past, and unique widgets in a variety of locations.
The pièce de résistance is the little train that takes you through the “forbidden” sections of Stanley Park. The only way to access these is via the Bright Nights Train. On the night we attended, the line up for the train wasn’t too bad. However, we were told that on weekends, it can get quite long.
