From Boston to Portland to Australia to Alaska to Texas to California, the Star Wars Exhibition started in 2005 and included 20 cities on its agenda. San Jose is the last city on that list.
Even at the end of it’s run, the exhibition is hugely popular and on the day I visited the line-up for tickets was an hour-long. And, with tickets in hand, I still had to wait for an additional 45-minutes to get into the Star Wars viewing area. The good news is the exhibition has been extended and now runs until March 23, 2014, in San Jose.
All items in the gallery come from the original movies: models of the ships, blasters, light sabres, clothing, and in some cases the characters themselves. Most impressive are Yoda, C3PO (both naked and covered), and R2D2 (actually, it was all impressive). The most popular during my visit was Darth Vader.
I have to say seeing the actual size of the models took away some of the magic… not too much, though. And, what I lost was gained in seeing a matchup of all the technology that we’ve created after being inspired by the movies. It demonstrates how an idea from the movie industry can be made a reality by technologists (and being in Silicon Valley it was neat to hear people talking about the technology they were working on).
Enjoy the photos…
