‘Tis a day full of pranks and strange ideas. I spent the day trying to determine if my emails were fake or real. Some were really good and full of technical jargon and reasonable logic; I’ll wait until tomorrow to see if they’re real or not.
Others were ridiculous (because changes in web security will force the internet to move away from Javascript and resurrect flash as the primary web development tool).
Then there’s the truly demented: putting a human head in a jar inside a fridge. Creative.
There is one prank that wasn’t.
Some of you may remember this: 10-years ago Google sent out its first invitation-only beta release email to friends and family. Almost a year later it publicly launched one of it’s defining products: Gmail. Some thought the first email was a joke… but it wasn’t, and here we are 10-years later still using the product that redefined the world of email.
I was lucky enough to be at Google for the 10th-anniversary party. Enjoy a brief glimpse inside the “Big G”.
