It started innocently enough, with the discovery of one warrior, painted like a beautiful garden… and then another with wild animals on it. They had interesting names like The Union and the Metallic Warrior and the Aging of Time.
These are the Terracotta Warriors, an army of 33 life-sized statues peppered around Vancouver and modelled after the originals found in Xi’an in 1974. All are painted by local artists and in September will be auctioned off to raise money for the Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.
We made finding them a treasure hunt; and, for each one Nina finds in the city using the map, she will get $1. The most difficult will undoubtedly be the one in Whitehorse… and Steel Unwoken, the one they keep moving around because of construction.
What a neat idea.
Just added two more photos. We’re now into the warriors that require us to ride our bikes longer distances.
