Restaurants open and close quite frequently in Calgary’s Core and neopolitan-style pizzerias are far and few between in the city (though more and more are popping up). Double Zero is one of the few and is located in the basement of The Core on the corner of Stephen Ave on 4th Street SW.
The 00 in Double Zero’s name refers to the grade of flour used in making dough — supposed to be the finest grain and best for making thin crust pizzas.
I mention this particular restaurant not only because it has purportedly fantastic pizza, but because gluten free options are available. As Calgary becomes more allergy aware, more restaurants are cropping up that have food for those who can’t eat from a regular menu.
I wasn’t brave enough to attempt the pizza, but the Spragg Farms pork chop was a pretty decent dairy and gluten free substitute.
