Most people who know me know that Caffè Artigiano in Calgary is one of my favourite coffee shops in the city. However, the origins of this cafe aren’t in Calgary, they’re in Vancouver. The original Artigiano is on the corner of Pender and Thurlow, and happily, I passed by this location every day on my way to work.
Currently, there are 11 locations in British Columbia (according to the barista) — mostly in Vancouver. The two Artigianos in Calgary are the only two outside of British Columbia. The popularity and growth of Caffè Artigiano is partially fuelled/backed by a long record of Barista Championship winnings.
So, what is it about Caffè Artigiano lattes that I like? It has that creamy caramel taste that signals good coffee to me. It’s light, smooth, devoid of after taste, doesn’t taste watered down or like you are drinking a cookie (Starbucks).
