As mentioned in an earlier post, Yaletown was one community that got a very large TV screen for the 2010 Olympics. The area close to this TV (Beatty Street, between Dunsmuir and Georgia) also saw a mural makeover in the summer of 2010.
This area was already known for murals created in 2007 as part of a block party that brought local artists together to raise money for charity. The artists from these original murals were brought back in 2010 to redesign and paint over what existed.
The results are below: a reflection of Vancouver’s past, present and future.
While photographing, I wondered what Jimi Hendrix’s ties to Vancouver were… being that he is depicted with many Canadian icons in the mural. Most people know him as the guitar genius from Seattle, however his father and family are from Vancouver. During his youth he spent a lot of time in the city.
