In the The Neverending Story, the scene where the school bullies chase Bastian down the street was shot in Gastown in Vancouver. In the right of the running-down-the-street shot, you can see the Gastown steam clock partially obscured by a man on a ladder.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only steam-powered clock in the world. Built in 1977, the idea for the clock was conceived by the clockmaker Raymond Saunders who based the clock after designs created by John Inshaw in the 1800s. The clock is beautiful and every 15-minutes it does a cute little musical whistle that can be heard down the block.
