There is a place on the Bay of Fundy called Port George. This is a popular place on hot summer days because the temperature here is often times much cooler than what it is in the Valley.
Our evening trip to the Bay was the second trip for La Niña and her second trip to the Atlantic Ocean. But, here we won’t put her feet in because the Bay of Fundy has a habit of chewing people up and spitting them out.
Don’t let the serene pictures fool you. The water is cold, rough and unpredictable. And, getting to the water is also difficult because the rocks are rough, slippery and often times covered in seaweed; especially when you get close to the water’s edge.
We’ll wait until we get to the south shore before we dip our feet in and say that La Niña has been in the Atlantic Ocean.
Beautiful pictures. I highly recommend Clam Harbour beach on the Eastern shore if you get down that way: fabulous beach, such soft sand!
The rocks are really slippery when you wear those flip flop things on the feet. I highly recommend a good pair of running shoes.
I’ve never heard of Clam Harbour, Lisa. I’m kind of shocked because I thought I knew Nova Scotia quite well. What other towns is it close to?
I’m also surprised you haven’t heard of it, glad I mentioned it! In early August they hold a very popular sand castle sculpture contest (huge crowds)… does that ring any bells?
Here’s a site about it [link removed]
If you travel east from halifax/dartmouth you hit the beaches in the following order: Rainbow Haven, Lawrencetown, Martinique, Clam Harbour; I’m not sure what towns are nearby though.
Thanks for the info Lisa. We will actually be in NS on August 8 — which is the day of the Sandcastle Competition. I would love to see that. I’ve also heard that the Lawrencetown beach is one of the best beaches in Canada. Thanks for the tip.
