Drop, cover and hold on! This is what we were told to do in today’s Vancouver city-wide earthquake drill. At 10:18, the loudspeaker came on and calmly gave us instructions. It was over in less than a few minutes.
We were suspicious about climbing under our desk in the real thing and asked the Google what places like Japan, California and Australia recommend. The message is the same in every language: drop, cover and hold on!
Experts say that a massive quake is long overdue and this is why the city practices yearly. However, if the big one hit, we’re convinced that the 1970s building that we’re in would be one of the buildings that would crumble.
