Exploring Scotland’s incredible wild landscapes – Loch Coille Bharr

Scotland has often been lauded for its rugged beauty, and it’s easy to see why. From the sprawling highland moors to the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, Scotland’s wild landscapes offer some of the most stunning and awe-inspiring natural scenes in the world.

No matter where you look, Scotland’s wild landscapes are filled with incredible sights and associated stories. From the epic mountain ranges to the hidden lochs to the deep glens – these are just some of the breathtaking views that await the adventurous traveller.

During my most recent trip to Scotland, I began each day with an early morning hike. Loch Coille Bharr, a part of the Knapp Beaver Trail, was one of the most memorable of those hikes. It was like something out of a dream, and for the entire hike, I felt like I had somehow been transported to a completely different world.

During one pivotal point, I walked around the South end of the loch and discovered archaeology within reach. While I stood there exploring a rock boat jetty under the surface, a flock of singing birds swooped down and passed within inches of my head. The rest of the loop was comprised of old stone walls, an abandoned house, a stone mill and eventually Kilmory Oib.

The loch is the perfect place to take a moment and reflect. I felt a deep sense of peace and contentment and was overcome with a feeling of gratitude for the beauty of Scotland. I originally planned for a shorter walk, but I’m glad I took the time to do a full hike because by the end was filled with a renewed appreciation for Scotland’s wild landscapes and all the incredible sights.
